The “Unofficial” Posidonia Grand Prix

“A good time was had by all at Posidonia’s first-ever Unofficial Posidonia Go-Kart Grand Prix at the local Pista Kart track.

THE competition was as hot as the weather as Posidonia’s sporting calendar got under way with the running of the first-ever Unofficial Posidonia Go-Kart Grand Prix at the local Pista Kart track. The event, organised by JLJ Maritime and Reso Garantia Marine Insurance, was aimed primarily at marine insurance brokers and drew 30 drivers, with another 20 or so supporters.

Our race-track reporter tells of an exciting final race that climaxed with a collision among the three leading karts. Keen motor sport follower Nick Ferguson-Gow of Seascope, who reportedly will be attending his 40th Le Mans this year, almost was able to take advantage but in the end it was Katerina Davies of Willis who emerged from the pile-up to take the chequered flag and have the privilege of dousing the crowd with bubbly.

JLJ’s Simon Jones was the runner-up and Yannis Pavlakis of Karaindros, the leader until the fateful prang two laps from the end, came third. Alex Timofeev of Moscow based Reso-Garantia presented the trophies. Whether women drivers will be less or more cursed in the insurance community after this result is anyone’s guess.”
